the girl’s field hockey team at the gas station in fall river
by joseph reich

wow i haven’t had a sandwich like this in so long!
just want to be happy and run with the dogs…

before these interviews you check yourself out in the mirror
and like some super hero rearrange your holster your guns

your charm and of course find yourself lost
and literally ask a whole squad of beautiful

blushing girls from the field hockey team
huddled in a flock at the gas station who

tell me while giggling and flirting and laughing
just go over the bridge and you’ll find yourself

back hustling those great blessed
brick alleys of raw crisp seasons

in fall river and woonsocket
where wild roses and wild

boys grow what i’d tell any kid
their age just find some fine

sad and sweet pouting girl with
a heart of gold and soul of pearl

to take care of you
you’ll find yourself

and realize there’s absolutely
nothing else to search for

that there’s really
nothing more…

Poem surmising/interpreting actual personal eventful moment…where the poem is one sentence…doesn’t get much better than that. There’s an adolescent coming of age awareness like this in all of us where we figure out that one thing you truly need to know before the world’s shit comes crashing down like dirty Swayze surfing sewers Point Bleak…but you got to remember that one thing and hold onto it.

Epiphany and Catharsis rolled into one chimachaunga! Thanks man.
