SHALL THESE BONES LIVE?

SHALL THESE BONES LIVE?
By Jason Mashak
These shall
bones live as: groin-strung eyes
gut hunger braided and tied
with ponytailed twine
awake on a gypsy wagon
where spine lies with liver
quarantined
dry as hay in need of mares’ saliva
& none have mercy branded on a thigh.
Still, I ain’t
I say I ain’t worried
bout the stillness of the situation.
Horses rear in wonder not fright
and the caravan keeps moving
when the wagon’s broke behind.
Organs back in place, the spine is slowly raised,
hunger discarded eyes retied
only raindance required for lilted faces
(wilted flowers incantated
yet no whiteness in the stamen)
