moloch
Moloch
by george buchanan
this is the modern
moloch
the exit 13 off ramp
decorated with
smoke stacks that belch out
fumes from god knows
where and god knows
what we did to build it
the masses pour out
to pilgrimage in Newark
behold
the signs that weep like
statues
and the prayers for foreign
gods spoken in hushed tongues
where the once great covenant used
to be
this is the modern moloch
this is our temple to the calf
of pharmaceutical wonders
the great towers where the
last of the faithful gather
to offer up their sacrifice
that they might still live
to see their children
consumed
here rest hateful eyes that burn
in diseased sockets
and here chant the
bloodstained priests
this is the
modern moloch
this is the Ishtar
gate
the new Nineveh
the Gehenna once
promised
to us for our
own misdeeds
good good good great
