What's Missing

What’s Missing
by John Bennett
I’ll tell you
what’s missing
in this
brave new
world of
iPods &
computers
cell phones &
virtual reality–
dolls &
teddy bears,
that’s what’s
missing,
the last
vestige of
myth icons
& fable,
primal taproots
to the
soul.
It will
all come
undone
one day &
when it
does the
last Neanderthal
will
rise up
from the
earth &
claim his
birthright.

  1. The Neanderthal will claim his teddy bear? Love the ideas behind the poem, but it suffered from a choppy flow. I tried reading it out loud and silently and the short lines stacked up just sounded awkward. I still enjoyed this, however.
