Proper Grammar
Proper Grammar
by Beth Cortez-Neavel
You said to me once
that you didn’t like poetry.
Music rearranges space and time,
you said.
It transcends language and erases boundaries.
It conveys wisdom without words,
Conveys meaning with a measure.
And you were right –
I concede on that point –
poetry can be just a masturbatory inside joke
between the poet and the paper.
But still –
that was not a very convincing argument
against the importance of using proper grammar
in your e-mails.
Truer words have never been spoken.
I love it. Great poem. I hope your friend realizes that dogs bark, monkeys chatter, but people can talk if they choose too.
Down with lazy language!
