lightening bugs

lightening bugs

“giddy up why not why aren’t you”,
choir in the neighborhood,
chanting like it’s nothing.
i&
my  cold  cold
sweat
gaze vapidly
into
headlights i won freeze-tag
in
so many times.
they screeched their brakes,
i fossilized,
it was love at first sight.
“i’m getting my beans together!”
i reply, trying placidly.
“my life is flashing before my eyes!”
my eyes read lotus,
now they’re reading
everything as primal.
my eyes, vomited,
across the border, eons ago.
my eyes, dissected,
seeing rebirth pass,
noticing grievances-
countless forgotten
newspaper headlines
accompanied
by the wind
or
one-time processes
trailed-off-
ultimately, apparently, they
never developed abilities to
stick
quite
consciously.
but shhh.
they can sing.
how they can sing!-
like those doves
who mimic owls
so the field mice
nuzzle under tree roots,
flattening the grass
in frantic doggie circles.
during summertime,
dusk barks oblivion. i’m getting the drift
it is that
and our normalized obsessions
(morally dehumanized,
for whatever reasons)
which
echo in
to
to
morrow lan  d
