If the truth was chocolate

If the truth was chocolate
by Kristina England
You’d buy a bar each day
remove the wrapper
break off the first piece
and offer it to me
not for my enjoyment
but to lessen your calories
to reduce the weight
in your belly
and I’d always bite down
knowing I’m allergic
let it melt in my throat
with a thank you,
then go to the bathroom
and pass out.

  1. This is about a relationship and the true meaning of that relationship, and how the one who offers the other a piece can tolerate most but not all of it; whereas the other can’t tolerate any of it. The former is sadistic or at least unfeeling; the latter, hungry but masochistic. An eccentric sub-cycle in some unnamed sphere of Hell. Good metaphor.
