I Question Falling in Love Poems
I Question Falling in Love Poems
by Silvia Angulo
I do not
write poems
about ‘falling’ in love
pretty obscene
and paradoxical
to those who have
a penchant for poetry
I do not
have overreaching
unrelenting known
views
for I find myself
loving
quite easily
but
I do not
‘fall’
so hard.
I do not
overlook my logical
mind and minded ways
as it begins to
contemplate that
‘fall’ implies
a loss
going down
then hitting
the ground
I do not
allow any of this
as I let
thoughts roam
to move
me
and see
that if love is
something one
chooses to give
the very word ‘falling’
negates to abolish
love’s true rising altruism
______________
I do agree
Love is
always winning
always elevating
even in it’s pain
I do agree
Love is
never hitting grounds
for even if it may be over
it is still
always a gain
I do agree
that falling
quickly
without thinking
without feeling
fully
who I am
knowing
strongly
where I stand
is loveless.
I do agree
Love
in choice
through agency
in understanding
for giving
always flows higher
______________
I rise to love.
Can we not
rise to love?
I am a poet
where words
are everything
Can we not
forget that words count?
And
if
The word is all
if
The word came first…
And
then everything followed
Can we
please
then
change
the damn word ‘falling?’
Good point. One of those usages we come to accept without thinking of the implications. Sure, “falling in love” has its metaphorical truths, but the poet gives good reasons for the opposite. Thank you for overturning my conditioned view of this phenomenon.
