a cup of coffee
a cup of coffee
By: jim benz
arrhythmia
could it be another morning?
ungodly
perhaps I’m dead
oh for the climate of dreams
found lacking, found
casting aspersion
on daybreak
full of songbirds
full of meaningless
ennui or conflict, snarling
eggs be damned, give me coffee
Brother! We empathize with this because of the tone (second stanza) and images (third stanza) of illness, and then that last line.
Fogman! How’ve ya been? Good to hear from you.
Coincidentally, i’ve woken for my nightshift and am drinking coffee/chicory doing the whole ritual morning thing myself (even though it’s afternoon). And yeah, i’d rather be back in bed where things make sense. I feel the sentiment/lament here.
Some words from poem:
*arrhythmia: “An arrhythmia (ah-RITH-me-ah) is a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. During an arrhythmia, the heart can beat too fast, too slow, or with an irregular rhythm.”
*aspersion:
1. a damaging or derogatory remark or criticism; slander:
“casting aspersions on a campaign rival.”
2. the act of slandering; vilification; defamation; calumniation; derogation:
“Such vehement aspersions cannot be ignored.”
*ennui:”
: a lack of spirit, enthusiasm, or interest
: a feeling of weariness and dissatisfaction : boredom
