there is no winter here

there is no winter here
by Dirk Michener

it’s become warm all year round
and night time is a nightmare
my diathesis withered
and porch turned pale
a large patch of carpet has a big red stain
and a curse hanging over
it’s edge recession.

I went walking yesterday
and found a small patch of wood
behind the university plaza strip mall
there was a deep recession in the earth
set off on a knoll of knotted thorn trees
layered the ground with dead leaves
and scattered clothing
a polaroid photo
a trapper keeper filled with paper
books by Michael Crichton
one thousand broke-dusty bottles of malt liquor
a dirty blanket with burn marks
a hive full of red ticks.
rotten horse-apples.
