the little one stopped to clean his magnifying glass
the little one stopped to clean his magnifying glass
by J.D. Nelson
are the tiny ants ready
for the leap from hill
to pyramid?
will the images of their gods
be stylized & adhere
to a strict canon of proportions?
will they construct
great centers of learning?
will they take pleasure
in frying us
with giant lenses?
It’s good to see some past H&H writers still participating. I heard a radio interview of Mr. Nelson some years ago and really appreciated his approach to poetry and many of his observations on artistic expression.
i like a poem not afraid to pose questions. The personification of ants drives home the metaphor to human civilization and our thought process in general–and the threat of destruction by a species which has become all too human. Great read!
