SEVERAL QUESTIONS FOR MUSHROOMS
by Casey Bush
What’s on your mind besides rancid putrefaction?
Tell me a lie that must be true
And I will find a reason to care about apathy.
Do you prefer pores or gills attached to serrated caps or precarious cones?
A healthy aversion to the sun
Leads to yogic breathing in a moss matrix.
Which is your preference a worn elbow or frayed collar?
Serve up a dream just before dawn
And it will haunt my tongue throughout the day.
Would you rather be a writer wanting a pen or an artist deprived of a palette?
Erudite cannibals hopscotch on tiptoes
Bearded salamander sings the libretto with a stiletto.
Those last thoughts bring me somewhere between Alice in Wonderland and Lord of the Flies. I feel as if I’m mushroom trippin’ and though it may seem the world has turned over on itself, it has always been that way. What has changed is my awareness. An awakening to how nature centers around nothing but itself, for itself. Great read!
