THE WHITE HOUSE BY THE SEA
THE WHITE HOUSE BY THE SEA
by Marc Carver
We all have to find our place in the world, don’t you think?
There has to be some place where you want to be
To fit in and to want to be there.
But what if you never find it.
What if you search and search
Search in many things and people
And you never ever find it.
Or what if you were too unique to be part of others
Or just too strange
Too different
Or you became too different
What would happen then.
You could always go and live in that cave or that white house by the sea.
A woman told me she would love to do that
and paint all day but she would get too lonely
She would have to return to people.
She looked at me as if to say you understand
At one time I might have, but I am not so sure anymore.

(the search party)
in your wanderings
have you wondered
maybe the problem
going out of your way
is you are a place
others look for
but can never find
try this on for size
close your eyes
stand still a moment
imagine you are home
stay where you are
so the homecoming
can find you
Marc Carver manages to use language to explore our short coming complexities into a very amazing and credible reality in his poetry goes beyond reach and breaches our own consciousness.
